Wondering what ‘STEM Toys and STEAM toys for children’ means? Maybe this will help…

Q: I can’t see anything through my telescope, is there something wrong?
A: It’s more than likely a simple issue with focusing or how you are looking through the eyepiece. The best thing to do is go here and follow the instructions on how to best line-up, focus and use the telescope.

Q: What is a STEAM Toy? / What is a STEM Toy?
A: STEAM/STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Maths (the “A” is sometimes used to represent Arts). STEAM toys encourage open-ended play and trial-and-error exploration, teach problem-solving, and allow children to lead the play experience, among other attributes. If you’re interested you can read more here.

Q: I’m having some difficulties in building a kit, can you help?
A: While the kits are fairly simple to construct, there may be a couple of steps that you might struggle with. You could use this as a great opportunity for a bit of family time to share the experience and learn together. If you need extra help, click here to watch us build the kits step-by-step.

Q: I have a part that’s broken or missing, can I get a replacement?
A: You most certainly can! We hate it when that happens, so contact us directly by clicking here and we will sort out a replacement for you.

Q: Where can I get replacement elastic bands for the Plane Launcher from?
A: We are currently unable to sell them directly from our website. However, we are working on this so please bear with us.

Q: The telescope is made from cardboard?! Does it really work?
A: Yes it does! We have a very high quality glass optic lens and plastic eye piece lens along with a mirror that’s super flat. So all those combine with the very clever cardboard mechanics to make a telescope that really does work. You can see the moon (on a clear night!) and you can definitely see a spider waving in the tree in your garden.

Q: Can I use my telescope in the rain?
A: We wouldn’t advise it! Cardboard is notoriously badly behaved in the rain. Besides, you’ll mess up that funky new hair style.

Q: Is it okay to look at an eclipse of the sun through the telescope?
A: ABSOLUTELY NOT! Doing so is very dangerous. You can do permanent damage to your eyes so never look directly at the sun under any circumstances. If you accidentally look at the sun, seek medical advice immediately.

Q: Is it okay to look at an eclipse of the moon through the telescope?
A: Yes it is. Enjoy!

Q: The image is back-to-front, have my eyes swapped places?
A: No, your eyes are perfectly fine. It’s all to do with the optics of the mirror and the lenses which will swap left to right. It’s a bit strange getting used to moving the telescope to the right to make the image move to the left, but you’ll quickly get the hang of things.

Q: I’ve put my hand in front of the telescope to magnify my finger print but I can’t see anything.
A: You can’t look at things that are too close to the telescope, you’ll need a microscope for that (watch this    space). As a rule, objects about 20 metres away should be okay.

Q: In the ‘About Us’ you mentioned Bonzo the dog ate one of your telescopes. Is he okay?
A: No dogs were harmed in the making of our telescope. He also sometimes eats socks. It’s not a pleasant sight when it all comes back up!

Q: You say you’re doing your bit for the environment but I notice your kits are made in China.
A: They are made in China by our trusted printer partner who uses FSC and other sustainable/recycled cardboards. They send our finished telescopes to us on a container ship, along with other manufacturers’ products such as computers, washing machines and toys. This is more fuel efficient and better for the environment than flying them here.

Q: Do you have any other products coming?
A: Yes we do, but that would be telling! We have great plans for 2020, so follow us on social media to be the first to know.
